Please use the USPS Priority Mail transit time map and enter zip code 95023 to estimate the transit time to your location after shipping from our California warehouse. If you would like to try to save money on shipping by using FedEx/UPS Ground service you can arrange that by calling us at 800-805-7957 or emailing mail@rejuvenative.com and acknowledging that we will not replace or refund it if it is damaged in transit. The increased transit time with FedEx/UPS Ground service allows more time for the raw cultured vegetables to continue culturing and thus leak in transit. This happens because the probiotics release effervescence as part of their metabolic process which speeds up at higher temperatures such as outside of the refrigerator and/or during shipping. The effervescence can push the juice up and make it slowly leak out of the jar as well as cause the lid to bulge or the veggies to rise up out of the jar when opened. This process in itself is natural and common and does NOT indicate the veggies are spoiled because they are a cultured food and culturing is a method of food preservation without refrigeration. So in terms of edibility we would still expect them to beneficial to eat for up to 2 weeks outside of the refrigerator at temperatures less than 77˚. However, if the juice gets on the box it can soften the cardboard such that it is less able to support the jars making them more prone to breakage. This is why we will not refund or replace orders shipping to these states with FedEx/UPS Ground service and require acknowledgement of this fact before doing so. We will place the jars in plastic bags to help prevent that from happening, but it is still possible. The cost for FedEx/UPS Ground is $7, plus $9.95 for Standard 1” insulation or $35 for Premium 4” insulation. So FedEx/UPS Ground service insulated with Standard 1” insulation is a total of $16.95.

When will my order ship?

We ship Monday-Thursday, no shipping on Fridays. Online orders placed after noon Pacific time will usually ship the next day, though some orders may be shipped the same day depending on the circumstances. Online orders placed Thursday after noon Pacific time, or Friday-Sunday will usually ship the following Monday. Oils are pressed to order, usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and will require an extra 24-48 hrs processing time. All references to transit time do NOT include processing time and refer only to the time the order is actually in transit AFTER it ships. FedEx/UPS Ground service transit times include only “business” days which are Monday-Friday. USPS Priority Mail includes Monday-Saturday. Thus, in order to minimize transit time, if you order raw cultured vegetables of any kind including sauerkraut, kim chi, salsa, pickles or ketchup, we may hold your order for the following Monday if we determine that there is a chance they could spend extra days in transit over the weekend. For example, if your order for raw cultured vegetables is received anytime after approximately noon Pacific time on Wednesday it will usually ship out on Monday so that it does not spend any extra days in transit over the weekend (some may ship the same day depending on the circumstances).

Orders shipping with USPS Priority Mail are guaranteed to be delivered within 3 business days after they ship out, and most locations receive delivery in 2 business days. See the USPS Priority Mail transit time map and enter zip code 95023 to estimate the transit time to your location after shipping from our California warehouse. Will my order automatically be insulated with styrofoam and ice?

Nut and seed butter, chocolate, oil and tea will NOT automatically be insulated with styrofoam and ice. If you would like to add insulation to your order of nut/seed butter, chocolate, oil or tea, you can add it to your cart from the insulation product page. We recommend refrigeration of these foods to retain as much freshness as possible over time, but not to prevent immediate spoilage. The nut/seed butter, oil or chocolate would have to get over approx 115˚ inside the jar to be hotter than the temperature at which they are processed so we do not expect even warm weather to harm them in any way, but of course you do have the option to add insulation if you choose.

All orders with raw cultured vegetables including sauerkraut, kim chi, salsa, pickles and ketchup will automatically ship with our Standard 1” styrofoam and ice insulation. Due to the live nature of the probiotics, leakage of juice is still possible even with insulation, but it does NOT indicate spoilage and we still fully expect the veggies to be beneficial to eat after a 3 day transit with insulation. Insulation will always minimize leakage, but not always eliminate it completely. If you would like to upgrade to the Premium 4” insulation you can add it to your cart from the insulation product page before checking out. Some larger orders may not fit into the largest box size we can use with USPS Priority Mail, especially if you choose to add the 4” insulation, so we will contact you and let you know what your options are in that scenario.

Why don't you use dry ice to ship raw cultured vegetables like other companies do?

Some companies pack their cultured vegetables in dry ice and use a slower shipping method, but lab tests have shown that freezing the cultured vegetables does damage the probiotic content, despite these companies telling customers that it doesn't. We recently had a lab test showing that freezing decreased the live probiotic count from 46 million per gram to 1.2 million per gram. So while it is true that some probiotics may survive, we do not feel that it is right to sell cultured vegetables this way while representing them as live as some other companies do. So while we sincerely wish that we had less expensive options for shipping raw cultured vegetables, and could make more money by compromising quality and truth, we do believe that preserving the quality and probiotic activity, as well as our integrity, is paramount. After all, the whole reason most customers seek raw cultured vegetables is to enhance their health, not just to have a tasty side dish. We are the only company with a health satisfaction guarantee, so when you order from us you know that you will be getting potent, live probiotics that will be beneficial for your health, guaranteed.

How will the transit time affect the raw cultured vegetables?

The culturing or fermentation process that occurs with Raw Cultured Vegetables is a natural method of food preservation. This means that they can be safely unrefrigerated for a short period of time (such as 1-7 days in transit). As the temperature rises, the probiotics in the Raw Cultured Vegetables become more active and begin consuming the starch in the vegetables at a faster rate. They release effervescence as part of their metabolic process (this is the zing you sometimes you feel on your tongue when eating Raw Cultured Vegetables). The effervescence can push the juice up causing it to leak out of the jar, it can make the lid puffy and it can even make the vegetables expand out of the jar when you open it. We call this process "expansion," and it does result in Raw Cultured Vegetables that are more potent with probiotics, but may have a shorter shelf life. How much shorter the shelf life will be depends on the transit time and temperatures to which they are subjected. The longer and hotter the transit, the shorter the shelf life will be. They are still beneficial to eat until the probiotics have consumed all the available starch in the veggies at which point they will no longer taste palatable, and may be browning/discolored. This usually takes about 2 weeks at temperatures less than 77˚. Our labels state that Raw Cultured Vegetables should be refrigerated unless in transit for less than 9 days at less than 74˚ (or 77˚ depending on which flavor you have). Insulated packaging is a simple way to protect raw cultured vegetables from heat or freeze related changes that may occur while in transit, so that is why all orders with raw cultured vegetables will automatically be insulated.

What is the shelf life after I receive my order?

  • Nut and seed butter, chocolate, oil and tea will be good for several months AFTER the sell-by date whether open or unopened as long as they have been refrigerated.
  • Raw cultured vegetables including sauerkraut, kim chi, salsa, pickles (but NOT the ketchup, see last sentence) may be safely consumed and enjoyed after many months when they are UNOPENED AND REFRIGERATED. We would usually expect UNOPENED jars to be good to eat for at least a month, and possibly several months, AFTER the sell-by date. After experiencing expansion during a warm transit that expected shelf life may be shortened, though the natural method of preservation will usually still allow for a multi-month shelf life when raw cultured vegetables are refrigerated at 33° or 34° upon receipt and then stored at this temperature because the probiotics are relatively dormant at cold temperatures. Slightly warmer refrigerated temperatures (35˚- 38°) may also be effective, though if you notice leakage try lowering your refrigerator temperature. While colder temperatures will prolong shelf life, be careful not to let it freeze as that may damage the probiotic activity. We recommend that you cool them down to 33˚ or 34˚ before opening which will minimize the chance of your raw cultured vegetables expanding beyond the jar when opened. ONCE YOU OPEN A JAR WE USUALLY RECOMMEND YOU EAT IT WITHIN ABOUT 4-6 WEEKS (or until you notice a dull/browning color and/or a rancid or alcohol taste), though this time frame could be shortened by a long, hot transit time, such as more than 3 days over 80˚. Ketchup should be eaten within 1 week after opening.
